"Years are like candy bars... we're paying more, but they're getting shorter."
Even if you already read and love Peanuts, I think you need these books. There's just no way you've seen everything. If you collect this entire series, though, you will have all 17,897 comic strips!
There are 26 books. I have 13. Halfway there.
If you have not read the comic strip... please do. We need all the joy we can get, don't we? I can't promise every single one will make you laugh out loud... but even when I don't laugh, I still smile. I love Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Snoopy and all the rest, and it's comforting just to see what my old familiar friends are up to today.
They're always doing something new, too. Yes, Lucy will always pull the football away, Linus will always have his security blanket, and Charlie Brown will always have a need to lean his head against a tree. But it's never exactly the same, and there are lots of interesting storylines that can go on for pages. For instance... Charlie Brown runs away from home in volume 14. In volume 10, Linus' blanket starts attacking Lucy! Peppermint Patty goes to a dance with Pigpen in the 15th book. In volume 20, Charlie Brown meets a girl at summer camp who actually likes him back. I think that's my favorite story so far!
In one of the earlier comic strips, Charlie Brown is walking along with his head down, depressed as usual. Then he sees someone else looking slumped over and sad. He straightens up, smiles, and says, "That's the only thing that could possibly have cheered me up!" That's why everyone loves Peanuts. When we feel like nothing is going right and the world is ending and what's the point of fractions anyway, it's nice to know we're not alone.
